Dahni Houseman

Dahni Houseman
Dahni began working with Victoria Police in late 2015, as the Community Portfolio Manager for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) and Seniors Portfolios.

Since joining Victoria Police Dahni has been working with her colleagues to continue raising the profile of the LGBTI portfolio, and further improve the relationship between Victoria Police and LGBTI community members, both internal and external to the organisation. This work includes organising the largest police contingent to date to march in Pride March, the raising of the rainbow flag outside of the Victoria Police Centre for the first time on IDAHOBIT 2016 and rebranding the GLLO program from Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officers to LGBTI Liaison Officers to ensure the program is more inclusive and reflective of the breadth of people police engage with.

Dahni comes to policing with extensive experience in public administration and the not-for-profit community sector. Immediately prior to joining Victoria Police, Dahni was the Principal Policy Officer for the Royal Commission Response Branch for the Victorian Department of Human of Health and Human Services. Dahni assisted with the Victorian State Government response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Child Sexual Abuse. Other government experience includes working for the 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission, working on the establishment of Emergency Management Victoria, and working on amendments to the Family Violence Protection Act 2008. Prior to joining government, Dahni worked in the community legal sector, establishing the Seniors Rights Legal Clinics at PILCH (now JusticeConnect) and in policy development for Seniors Rights Victoria.

Dahni is the Secretary of the Melbourne Argonauts Queer Rowing Club, the only LGBTI rowing club in the southern hemisphere and one of only a handful across the globe. Dahni holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Bachelor of Laws and a Masters of Public Health.
